Rising Out Of The Depths Of Shame And Despair

“Showing others who suffer how we were given help is the very thing which makes life seem so worth while to us now.”

The Daily Reflections seem to “hit” on current events quite often :)

If I chose to, which I do not, I could allow my mind to focus on what it would perceive as a negative. Becoming detached/separated/terminated from my earth/dirt job. I have to tell you that, sober, I was prepared for this, as I have been once before. Drinking? Never! It would have been the perfect excuse for some down time in a bar…

“Cling to the thought that, in God’s hands, the dark past is the greatest possession you have – the key to life and happiness for others. With it you can avert death and misery for them.”

Prepared? Had a plan… put a few bucks away and have some resources to fall back on, one of which is b5! Another resource was the District Manager of a competitor to my former employer with whom I had a hand-shake agreement to communicate if this day came. We’ve just spoken.

Another resource is the positive mindset afforded us in recovery! Why? Because my former employer went to great lengths to convince me (and the rest of the folks who work/worked there) that we are the problem! Well, guess what… we’re not the problem!!!

“What a gift it is for me to realize that all those seemingly useless years were not wasted. The most degrading and humiliating experiences turn out to be the most powerful tools in helping others to recover. In knowing the depths of shame and despair, I can reach out with a loving and compassionate hand, and know that the grace of God is available to me.”

If all my plans and resources were to fail I know beyond doubt that my HP hasn’t brought me this far to drop me on my head! If God is for me – who can be against me…

I am no longer shame-filled nor desperate. Though fear stands at the door, I need not let him in. And neither are you nor do you need to either!

  1. Hey Mark, from what source did you get those quotes in bold? I.e., if I were to want to quote them, where could I say they’re from?

  2. Mark says:

Those quotes are from an A.A. book called “Daily Reflections.”

You can buy a copy from my Amazon link on this entry :)
