Rosie Vs. Elisabeth

pink-hair-blog-flat.jpgDid you see The View this morning? Rosie and Elisabeth had a big huge fight about how Elisabeth responded to a question Rosie asked Elisabeth earlier in the week. Elisabeth was vague and non-committal about whether or not she believed Rosie thought the troops were terrorists, as reported on cable news stations. They totally went all out at each other! Now that Rosie has announced she won’t be back next year I think Elisabeth now feels she can just say what she thinks without pissing off the main host. Rosie called Elisabeth “cowardly” and Elisabeth said it wasn’t her job to “be the person to explain your thoughts, defend your own insinuations!” Both of them had hurt feelings. Especially Rosie, who wanted Elisabeth to validate her. In my opinion, Rosie will never feel validated by Elisabeth because Elisabeth has made a negative value judgment about Rosie’s lesbianism. Elisabeth believes that God believes the way Rosie lives her life is wrong. Rosie is naïve’ to believe that Elisabeth can experience a “true friendship” (which lacks judgment) or that Elisabeth will ever validate her as equally legitimate. It was all Joy’s fault though. I mean, she knows the two are about to lose it over the war and their opposing stance on the whole issue. Yet, she read this long list of reasons why we should just get rid of President George W. Bush. (Hello Joy, it’s an election year in 2008 – should we just impeach him? Is that what you’re suggesting?)

Put this on your DVR if you’re busy tomorrow. I can’t wait to see how they handle the next three weeks of Rosie’s contract.

    Tracee,
Can you validate your statement “…Elisabeth has made a negative value judgment about Rosie’s lesbianism. Elisabeth believes that God believes the way Rosie lives her life is wrong.”?

Did you actually hear Elisabeth say that?

    Thanks, Mimi

I couldn’t believe when I saw all of it unfold before my eyes. Joy added the kindle to fire, as she read from “the List”. Elisabeth is a die hard supporter of this administration and will never back down, even, if she knows our current administration has really made a mess of things. Did you notice, when Alicia Silverstone came out for her segment, that she walked right past Elisabeth and didn’t acknowledge her – no handshake, no hugs, not even a smile. You could tell she was truly uncomfortable through out the first few minutes of her interview. It will be very interesting to see this play out for the next three weeks. I can’t wait to hear what Barbara has to say.

  3. Tracee says:

Yeah, I totally notice that Elisabeth sat down, all “okay, so it’s like that huh?” I think she thought Joy was going to attack her for living in sin. Joy was just kidding, but I think Alicia came out there thinking “Oh I hope they don’t pounce on me and devour me.”

    Mimi,

I wasn’t referring to their fight actually on the show. Rosie’s the only one who referred to her own lesbianism. But, if I can play armchair analyst for a minute, I think Rosies feelings are hurt because she expected Elisabeth to say, “I know Rosie and she would never say the troups are terrorists.” To Rosie that would be what a true friend would say. However, I don’t think Elisabeth can be Rosie’s true friend. She believes that Rosie’s marriage is an abomination before God. She votes to uphold marriage as something between a male and a female, therefore she inherently invalidate’s Rosie’s marriage to Kelly. I just don’t think invalidation and judgment are the keys to true friendship. I think Rosie’s feelings are hurt because she sort of realized that Elisabeth is not what she would consider a true friend.

That said, Rosie was totally mean and hit Elisabeth below the belt. She called her a coward – which it takes guts to stand up to Rosie, so I don’t think Elisabeth is a coward. Also, she basically called her stupid when she said, “Can you not hold two thoughts at once?” Totally mean-spirited and below the belt.

  5. SERVICE MEN OF AMERICA says:

When I viewed the debate that Rosie & Elizabeth were having, I have to say I was surprised. I first would like to say, as a naval officer, that all this bickering should come to an end. First of all, Rosie’s beliefs are just that, they are her beliefs. Sad that they have to be heard nation wide and create negativity towards our brave honorable soldiers sacraficing their lives for “Negative Loud Mouths Like Rosie & Joy”. It’s people like them that have the ability to spread their negative campaign against the war on terror. The networks should shut them down immediately. It’s a sad day when a soilder has to hear this sort of message day in and day out. It’s easy for them to express thier opinions while getting paid millions of dollars for working an hour a day, if you even want to call it working. They always want to show the negative stories and never the good ones. This not only goies for the cast on “The View” this goes for all the media. When I say that there are alot of good positive stories with the Iraqie people with US Soilders, I mean it. Why doesn’t the media show that? I’ll tell you why, beacuse the media is run by demorats that want to portray our Commander & Chief as evil. They are using the media to their advantage by spreading negativity & false information. The Proud US Soilder’s would like to thank the Media of this Great Country, “Thank you for turning America Against Us. And to all you celebrities out there in this great Country, Keep your Opinions to yourself. If it wasn’t for this Country, you wouldn’t be where you are today.

i think Rosie should just keep her mouth shut, she is always fighting with someone.
everyone has their own oppion and if we were all the same, what an awful world this would be.

  7. polly says:

rosie should stop her damn fighting with everyone and who cares about her being gay, just stop the fighting, because it’s not going to change a thing,so get over it,i have

  8. Tracee says:

    Polly,

If she kept her mouth shut she would make a very bad host for a talk show. Having an opinion is key. I for one, love an angry lesbian on a talk show. Mucho entertainment, which is why I’m watching anyway.

  9. Mimi says:

    Tracee,
Thanks for answering my question. Yes, Rosie did hit below the belt. With as many people that Rosie has alienated in her own industry and in general, I too would be hesitant to ‘validate’ her by answering her question. It seemed to me like she was trying to bully Elisabeth; which Elisabeth showed she won’t allow.
I liked your comment about why you like to watch the show. I nickname Rosie ‘Road Kill Rosie’. You know how you drive by a roadkill and you tell yourself not to look because it’s not a pretty sight but you just can’t help yourself? Thus, Road Kill Rosie.
On the serious side, I believe Rosie should be treated for Bi-polar disease. I recognize the behavior as I am Bi-polar also. It is treatable.

  10. Tracee says:

Well, now you’re taking armchair analyst too far. I like Rosie and agree with her more than I agree with Elisabeth actually. Actually, I could see myself being friends with Rosie, but I wonder what LaLaLand Elisabeth lives on. I mean, all the perfection and the play dates and the values and the idealism. It’s like Elisabeth scored everyone’s dream life and can’t understand why everyone else lives on planet Earth. Plus, I disagree with Elisabeth’s stance on pretty much all the issues.

But, Elisabeth is not a coward and I do think Rosie was trying to manipulate her a little by trying to make her say the cable programs – Fox – were nuts to say Rosie called the troups terrorists.

  11. Mimi says:

Yeah, being a Christian will not always win a popularity contest. I know it’s hard for non believers (in the Christian religion) to understand that we do enjoy the fruits of living our life trying our best to follow the values, morals and ideals that God has set forth (Read Jerimiah 29:11). I personally know both worlds and prefer mine now as a Christian. But I’m not writing here to Bible Beat.

Personally, I wish the best for Rosie and her family. If sensationalism is what the producers were going for, they made an excellent choice with Rosie. I’m wondering if they had any idea how jealous Rosie would become of Elisabeth (Elisabeths life and rights as a straight person) and did they have any idea the impact that Elisabeth would make when pushed that far to defend her life (lifestyle). Which by the way she never asked Rosie to defend her own lifestyle. Whatever your beliefs, you must give her credit for going toe to toe with Rosie.
Imagine if you had to go to that job everymorning knowing thousands of people nationwide would be watching. I’m just saying, Elisabeth handled herself in a very professional manner considering the circumstances. I’m sorry for Rosie that she took it too far on the show. She did the same on her own talk show. One such episode was when she attacked Tom Sellack about his NRA membership. He answered back, your producers said this was supposed to be a fun show…well I’m not having any fun right now. See I used to be a fan of Rosies. I just don’t like it when stars use their position to preach their gospel. When the 700 Club TV show comes on it has a disclaimer from the station that what you are about to see and hear is not the opinion of that station or like the announcement for some other shows that some of the content may be offensive. We should have gotten that same warning for The View. She’s probably severly hurt her career. Well, she can always perform on her Cruise Ship! There at least she will have a receptive audience.

    Take Care

  13. Tracee says:

    Dear Service Men of America,

Thank you so much for defending our country. Everyone truly and honestly appreciates what you do. I can understand how you might take criticism for the war as criticism against those who are actually fighting the war. For you to believe in what you are doing, you have to believe that the war is right and good or you wouldn’t be able to complete your mission.

But, standing up for Rosie and her original comment. Which, I believe was something like “whose the terrorists? They didn’t attack us, but we’ve killed millions of their women and children.” (Not a direct quote, but close enough).

I do not believe Rosie was referring to our troups as terrorists. I believe she was referring to George W. Bush as a terrorist. He is the commander in chief and he is the one who declared war and has, in Rosie’s eyes, become a terrorist in a country that never attacked us.

I think that is an important distinction because I really think Rosie’s very passionate about the troups. I think, for her, the thought of any more of you soldiers coming home maimed or dead is simply not worth the “objective” Bush is trying to accomplish.

I can respect that she feels so passionately about the safety, well being and life of all the men and women who are correctly following orders and defending our country. I think she truly does respect you and honor you for what you, the troups, do.

I think it is the objective Rosie disagrees with in principle. She does not feel that going to war with Iraq is going to stop terrorism.

I also think she gets very upset with Elisabeth because Elisabeth sees the death of some of our US Soldiers as acceptable loss. I think Rosie personifies the troups to the point where she can not see the loss of even one as acceptable.

    Thanks for all you do,
    Tracee (Military Brat)

  14. Tracee says:

Polly, I agree without differences the planet would be boring as heck.

Plus there would be no one to learn anything new from – that would suck.

    That said Mimi,

There are lots of different kinds of Christians. I am a Christian.

But I disagree with Elisabeth in almost every political/moral issue. She’s right to life – I’m pro-choice. She’s anti-gay marriage – I voted yes to gay marriage. I pretty much expect not to win a popularity contest with the “Christian Family Values” sect. I think Elisabeth is moralistic, legalistic and judgmental. Not to mention naive.

I feel there are millions of Christians in America who cringe when they heer the words “Christian Family Values” or “Silent Majority” – really when are they ever silent?

Not to mention that I don’t think America was founded as a Utopia for Christians. I think Freedom of Religion means non-Christians, gays, non-whites, EVERYONE should have just as many rights as everyone else. And there are about a billion varieties of Christians and vastly different interpretations of the bible. Where I live I’m starting to think the Christians are turning into isolationists. Judge and retreat.

Now I feel the Christians are going to label me a bad Christian for writing that.

I’m also a Christian Democrat – a sector of the population that seems actually to be Silent and who know, maybe we’re the silent majority. I think there should be social welfare programs and don’t mind paying my taxes to help the less fortunate out. I pay my tithes too, but lets face it, lots of needy people aren’t in churches and won’t have anything to do with the church these days. I like helping them too through government programs. I don’t like cutting taxes when it means cutting a Title 1 program that is saving families with special needs children. Or if it means there’s fewer music programs in school. So not Republican of me – still, I’m a Christian.

Heck I even think we should completely socialize medicine to the point where everyone who is breathing gets equal access to it simply because they are breathing.

I call it compassion and empathy and I think Jesus would have felt the same way.

So, see I am a Liberal Christian Democrat. Almost the opposite of Elisabeth. I suspect there are a lot of people out there just like me.

  18. Tracee says:

I guess I didn’t win the popularity contest with Gloria.

Gloria, you do understand that they are talk show hosts? Not political candidates. It’s supposed to be entertaining. They have no ACTUAL power over anything.
