Running on Sand: Tips for Vacationers

Are you going on vacation somewhere where you’re planning a beach run? Here are some of my very favorite tips for making your run on sand work! As a lot of you know, I’ve been trying to get myself out on the beach of Miami to keep myself in shape, and that’s required more of an adjustment than I thought.

Barefoot running is especially difficult, but I really do enjoy it. There are three tips to help you get your way down the beach better, and without being too sore afterwards.

  • Lean forward instead of pushing yourself off.
  • Don’t push forward or off of the ground.
  • Pull your foot up from off the ground.

Don’t be afraid of a little soreness. It’s important to get through it and work on your technique– and not to feel self-conscious while you’re at it.
