Sales Jobs and Bladder Cancer?

April 28, 2006 by admin

This article, “Sales jobs tied to bladder cancer risk” is a bit scary, because it suggests that research review of 18 studies on occupation and bladder cancer risk has additional evidence for people in sales positions to have (slightly) higher risk of bladder cancer, especially for women.

Speculations of why this link was seen ranged from smoking (stress on the job?) to having less time for bathroom breaks and drinking less fluid throughout the day, even when there were no links in humans between bathroom breaks and bladder cancer risk. The safest “bet” seems to be smoking as a risk factor.

When I was in a sales job, I do remember being in waiting rooms a lot, and it was tough to go to the bathroom because that may be when your name was called and you get to see the client.
