[...] The new host for Top Chef Season 2 has been announced. No, it is now Cat Cora…although I did think that would be a great idea. No, Sara Moulton has not gained employment. The new host is Padma Lakshmi. Known as the first Indian supermodel, actress and award-winning writer Padma Lakshmi joins the second season as host of TOP CHEF, introducing the challenges to the contestants and sitting at the judges′ table each week. Lakshmi is currently working on her second cookbook for Miramax Books due in Spring 2007, a culinary endeavor of over 150 recipes from around the world and intriguing personal memoirs. This is a follow up to her successful first cookbook, “Easy Exotic,” for which she won the International Versailles Event for best cookbook by a first time writer. [...]

I really enjoy the how-to shows...hopefully this will not continue to be a trend. We need Malto Mario and Esseance of Emeril. Of course, MTV doesn't show music anymore, so who knows what could happen...eek

I've noticed the decline on Food TV Canada, too -- a shift in focus from teaching cooking to pop trivia and food drama.

Just look at the commercials to get an idea of who they want watching the channel. People pulling a frozen dinner out of their $7,000 stainless steel fridge and popping it in their $1,000 microwave oven.

I'll miss Sara... I found the show educational. I'll have to check the lineup on PBS and set the Myth box to record her new show.

Tracey,

I think that the Food Network is losing someone who certainly has a rapport with her audience and a passion for cooking.

As I said in my posting over at www.TVFoodFan.com, I do think she may actually be a better fit for the PBS audience. That is a teaching venue, and she is a very good teacher.
