This week’s hot button topic was all about prenatal testing so I’ll just round out the discussion with this week’s genetics quiz question:

What genetic disorders does prenatal genetic testing detect?

Answer:

From Baylor College of Medicine:

  • Down syndrome
  • Trisomy 13
  • Trisomy 18
  • Sex chromosomal abnormalities
  • Other rare genetic disorders resulting in mental retardation and/or physical problems

For a complete list of diseases detectable using prenatal chromosomal microarray analysis, see this reference table (pdf).
