School days, school days
The Back to School season is fraught with childcare issues for us.
My husband is a teacher, and, he goes back to school before our kids do. It’s a bit of a problem, since he is our childcare during the summer.
My MIL stayed with the kids the first week he worked, but, she’s in her 80s and lives out of town, so, we didn’t want her to have to do it for two weeks in a row.
I need to go to work because I was just gone for vacation, and, like I’ve said before, my employer kind of likes it when I’m, you know, there.
Our kids, ages almost 13, 11, and, 5 can stay alone for a while, but, I’m not wild about it for long periods of time. A combination of any two of them is OK, but, all three of them alone, not so much.
I have no idea why, but, it tends to be a disaster.
The high school and college kids have started back to school, so, getting a babysitter is a challenge, too.
To top it off, I have a kindergartener who only has school for one half-day the entire first week of school, and, then has 2 half days the following week before starting a regular schedule.
I have no magic solution for this, but, I just thought I’d share.
Good times.

When you figure it out, don’t forget to share. I’m about a year from this and have no idea how we’ll balance it all.
That bites. I work at home and unschool my son and have no help from his dad in the terms of real help so I feel you. If I had to work out of the home and Cedar went to school it would be even harder because I don’t know what I’d do with Cedar after school. But even how I do it, it’s still hard. Balancing sucks — today in particular has been lame.
I hope you figure it all out.
