Science & Health Channel Topic du Jour: Smoking

b5media Science & Health Channel Topic du JourWelcome to our first b5media Science & Health Channel Topic du Jour! (Remind me to work on streamlining that name.)

The idea: A topic and day are chosen, and each blog in the Channel posts about the topic on the day, preferably in a manner that connects the Topic du Jour with the regular topic of the blog.

The Topic du Jour: Smoking.

The Day: uh… today.

Round Up Time

  • Alzheimer’s Notes: Alzheimer’s & Smoking: Mary (or is it Mary Emma?) skips around the health risks and gets to this very real danger: Given the memory problems associated with Alzheimer’s, how do you handle a family member’s smoking?
  • Autism Vox: Obsession, addiction and the autism road trip: Kristina reviews The Road Trip: Life with Autism by Gloria Pearson-Vasey and her autistic son Kevin. The connection to smoking? One of Kevin’s fixations is eating cigarette butts.
  • Cancer Commentary: For Health AND Beauty!: As you might imagine, Jane covers the cancer causing effects of smoking quite frequently. Today, however, she’s chosen to tip her hat my way. Thanks, Jane!
  • CFS-Squared: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia & Smoking: Adelle highlights multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), a condition that is closely linked to CFS and FM and aggrevated by the myriad chemicals found in cigarettes.
  • Diabetes Notes: Diabetics! Don’t Suck That Butt!: As if diabetes didn’t bring it’s own health risks, Rob wonders why any diabetic would compound the issues by smoking. BONUS POST! Rob’s back with info on Smoking and Inhaled Insulin.
  • A Dozen Steps: Helping You Quit: A great post from Mark W. with a variety of info; Nicotine facts, Nicotine quotes, Nitotine Anonymous.
  • eBeautyDaily: Quit Smoking for Your Health AND Beauty: Christina, my ex-channel editor, couldn’t help but join in the fun. She’s got the low down on something that might just help you kick the habit: lipNIX!
  • Flu Patrol: Smoking Lowers Resistance to the Flu: As if the flu weren’t bad enough, turns out smoking makes it worse. Carl has a round up of links with details.
  • Genetics & Health: Quit Smoking: Hsien offers a balanced, gentle commentary, which concludes by asking: “What have you done today to help someone live a healthier life?”
  • A Hearty Life: Quit Smoking: Hsien, with another wonderfully efficient title, highlights some of the heart risks that women smokers in particular face.
  • The Homely Scientist: Quit Smoking … how does the patch work?: Tris is in with a primer on the nicotine patch, and a confessional on his own efforts to kick the habit.
  • Healthcare.wurk.net: Healthcare Workers Who Smoke: Hsien is also the editor here, and she’s got some cross-network participation going. Check our the paradox of healthcare workers who smoke.
  • Baldiness.com: Smoking Might Cause Baldness: Nuff said.

Hi! I put mine up on the 3rd, just in case I couldn’t get around to it on the big day—-

It’s called “Obsession, addiction, and the autism road trip.”

    Much appreciate the round up!

Thanks for the note. I’ve added your post to the Round-Up.

Hey, I’m all about SEO, dude. ;) HHAAA

No, actually, it’s my typical “let me tell you what to do” style. In this case, it’s: You there. QUIT SMOKING!

BTW, don’t forget Mark’s at A Dozen Steps.

Sorry to be a pest, but maybe you could include my post at healthcare.wurk.net? :P
