Scrapbooking

I have got stacks and stacks of photos that one of these days I will put together into a scrapbook (or 10) for each of my kids.  Hopefully this will occur sometime before their 18th birthday!

As it stands right now, my son’s “First 5 Years” book is full – dutifully filled out and complete with all the details. My middle child’s book is done, too. Not as complete as my son’s but, it is not bad. And then we have my baby. She is officially five and I haven’t opened her book in at least two years! Bad Mommy!

For those of you who are better about preserving those childhood memories in an organized, creative fashion, I have two links to share with you.

1. Printables4Scrapbooking – this is a very cool site made with love by my pal Randa. The printables are original and very nicely presented. She is a designer with a flair for capturing the details in her creations.

2. Scrapbooking Fun the American Girl way.  American Girl has got some really nice printables at their site – perfect for the kids, whether they are making a scrapbook of their dolls or one of their friends.

Do you have any good tips for making that stack of photos easier to go through and organize? I have to start somewhere!

Yes, you could always do themed albums. I have 1 Christmas book and an ABC book I’m working on. The ABC book is pictures that I’m putting together of family, friends, and things that start with the letters to make it fun and easy for the girls to learn their ABC’s. I need to finish up Fiona’s so I can start working on Kinsley’s.

The Christmas book is on-going. Each year I save the Christmas letters and cards that I get along with the photos. I also save correspondence for that year and put everything together at the end to include in my Christmas book. If you keep the Christmas letters is winds up being a nice family heirloom with a bit of a dear diary twist to it.

Angela – those are great ideas! The Christmas book is really great – I do a general letter each year. It would be nice to have all the old ones in one place.

You know those small school pictures people send? The ones that I don’t put in Christmas ornaments for that year – I put on the page if they sent a Christmas letter. If they don’t send a Christmas letter and they send a card – I cut the card in half so that you can post the front as well as the inside so you can see what people wrote, along with their photograph. The Christmas photo cards are PERFECT for these things. If I can remember to do this I will see if I can somehow get you an example of mine. Too bad we don’t live closer to each other. We could have a scrap party!! :)

I’m hoping to be able to gift my daughter with a scrapbook of her school years when she goes away to college. That leaves me two years to put everything together which, at the rate I’m going now, doesn’t seem to be enough! I keep finding more items that I want to add!
