This years seasonal flu vaccine was a superior match for the most common seasonal flu virus. That has resulted in one of the mildest seasonal flu seasons in recent history.
An unexpected flu outbreak in Houston was the single exception to the good news. Around 50% of the states are now reporting that flu-like illnesses are virtually gone, this according to the CDC. Flu and pneumonia deaths were well below normal nationwide with deaths among children numbering less than two dozen.
Some health officials are worried that the mildness of this years flu season will lull the nation into complacency, “forgetting the dangers of the common flu bug.”
And all the while nations around the world are attempting to prepare for for a possible pandemic developing from the H5N1 bird flu virus.
Stay alert! Don’t think that a milder that usual common flu season is cause to relax our vigilance regarding the bird flu.
