Secret Keeper Girl, a Review
In today’s society our girls are inundated with sex, drugs, and false values. Even eight year olds view sexual images on the television and in magazines every day. Should they be reading about it too?
Dannah Gresh, a best-selling Christian author, thinks they shouldn’t. In her first attempt at reaching the secular audience, Secret Keeper Girl reaches out to teen girls and their mothers.
The Secret Keeper Girl digs into the relationship of both mother and daughter and teen and God in order to teach life lessons.
As a young adult literature specialist I find that most often teens are looking for something a little more gritty but at age eight or nine parents still want to help their children read at night and still want to guide them down the “right” path. This series of books presents life choices in an appropriate manner, unlike most fiction on the market. It is, in essence, a very safe read for a mother/daughter duo. It also has activities linked to the website that can involve deeper issues.
I like the activities linked to it, I like the appropriate life choices, and I like the integration with moms. However, I think that it is best served in schools and homes with a heavy Christian base. It was just a little too preachy for me.
This is a review for Team Mom.
