Sewing (and Quilting)…a Lost Art?

January 31, 2007 by Mary Emma Allen

When I was growing up, quilting and sewing were common household tasks.  Mothers and grandmothers taught the younger generations to sew and quilt, just as they did to cook.  I also had Aunt Mary, a neighbor who was the sewing leader in the 4-H Club.  My mother, although she was a busy farmwife, sewed dresses for my sister and me, until Aunt Mary taught us to sew.

Cathy Perkins, at Tangled Thread, has a very interesting post, “Is Sewing a Forgotten Art?”

This is really thought provoking, isn’t it? I hate to admit that it’s probably true.
