Shaking Bill Clinton’s Hand

In honor of President’s Day I give you a photo of President Bill Clinton shaking my six-year-old daughter’s hand!
Last Friday, that’s when. It was very exciting!
He also put his hand on my friend’s shoulder and said something about signing her book after shaking everyone’s hand.
I got to shake his hand too. My baby Zack’s picture was featured on our newspaper’s website too (#52). I got interviewed for a news station – but I guess I ended up on the cutting room floor. . .
The best thing I heard during the speech was about Hillary’s health care plan. What he was talking about doesn’t sound anything like ”socialist” health care. He said Hillary’s plan provided for everyone to be insured – basically through private companies. They would create a large pool for people who don’t have insurance through their jobs – self employed, students, missionaries, churches, small businesses, etc – and they would be able to buy insurance together.
The other key component is that insurance companies would have to insure everyone without picking and choosing only the healthy people. Everyone would be able to buy it and premiums would be affordable.
I can’t really see a downside to this strategy. I don’t know what everyone has their panties in a wad and blabbering on about “socialist medicine.” I would think people’s sense of self-preservation would kick in. Thank goodness there’s still time.

I never shook a President’s hand. However, my mom shook Lyndon Johnson’s hand when he was Vice-President…and I took her photo. Even though she and my dad didn’t vote for Johnson, Mother thought it fun to be part of history. As a newspaper reporter, I did interview Nancy Reagan and take her photo with some of the people in our small town during one of the Presidential campaigns.
Interviewing Nancy Reagan woudl be so cool Mary Emma.
I’ve never shaken a President’s hand before. It was exciting. Hopefully it will be my first not my last!
That is so cool! Ainsley will remember this for the rest of her life. I love the photo of Zack in the paper. He’s adorable.
That’s awesome – for you and your kids. There’s something intoxicating about listening to Bill Clinton – I can just imagine being in the room w/ him. My husband and I watched him on some political show a few months ago and my husband got up and said “I don’t know why, but I want to vote for Hillary now”. I just cracked up!
My mom met him once in Arkansas at a teacher’s convention. (He was govenor) She said all the young women were swooning over him..
Also, I love your son’s hair! My 4 year old sports his little mohawk most days. I love it. My husband was afraid it would not go over too well in the little Christian school he goes to. I felt like that was silly, I mean he’s four. But we’re in a really small Southern town and people have set ideas sometimes. Thankfully his teacher always ooohed and ahhed over it. Noone ever said anything negative and one day before Christmas I saw another little boy w/ one..
I did swoon a little. It was cool cause I was thinking that for a brief moment the Universe aligned so that the former leader of the free world and me and my kids were in the same place at the same time, touching, making a connection. Corny? Cool!
I thought people would flip about the mohawk cause we too live in a small Southern town. But, even old people come up and tell me they think his hair is so cute. Except my grandma thinks it makes him look too “tough” instead of sweet. My mother-in-law was about to cry about cutting off his baby curls – but even she thinks his do is the bomb!
