Moms who share the results of their cancer genetic tests with their children are more satisfied with their decision than Moms who don’t share, says a new study from Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Medical Center.
The study participants were tested for genes involved in cases of inherited breast and ovarian cancer.
Researchers reported that mothers who disclosed test results had a more open parent-child communication relationship.
Who’s talking and when?
• 63% of mothers shared test results with their children within one month. So did 44% of fathers.
• 68% of the mothers and 55% of the fathers talked with their offspring about the results within six months of testing.
Have you shared your genetic test results with your children?
