Should Alcohol Be Part Of Your Weight Loss?

Anyone remember Kai Hibbard from The Biggest Loser season 3? She was the runner-up and won $50,000 for her efforts. One thing you may remember about Kai is that she loved her cocktails and going out and partying with friends (in fact, she was quite drunk throughout the finale…I have to admit, it was kind of amusing watching her make a spectacle of herself). Her end weight was 144 pounds at 5′5″ – even at home, she never gave up the booze.
I believe that if she’d gone “dry” throughout the duration of her weight loss, she could have made it as low as 125, which could have given her the edge to win the competition. Come on, I’m sick of seeing men win! Can we do this, or can’t we?
I recently stopped drinking as an attempt to whittle my waist further – not to mention my stomach, which has always been a “problem area.” I wasn’t much of a big drinker, but I believe even a couple drinks a week can impede your weight loss.
My suggestion? Don’t party it up like Kai. Even in maintenance, you ideally shouldn’t have more than 1-2 drinks at a time. If you abstain during your weight loss, you might be surprised at the results you see.
If you like margaritas (most do) try this sugar free margarita mix added to ice and blended in the blender. It tastes just like a frozen margarita, my favorite, but without the kick of the tequila (or the calories)!
Another favorite of mine is Sugar Free Red Bull when I’m at a bar and don’t want to get drunk. Although it’s not cheap ($4 at most bars and restaurants) it beats most alcoholic drinks in terms of price.
Cheers!

What makes you so sure those “shots” I was taking for tv weren’t diet coke and part of my “character?” By the way i was dehydrated and malnourished at the finale- not drunk. Thanks
Sorry Kai, I didn’t know they would have done that just for the show. I also just assumed that you had been drinking before the finale – I didn’t know you were in such a bad state. Please accept my apology.
She wasn’t drunk? Could have fooled me! I didn’t know people acted that way on television. I would have rather blamed it on being drunk. Sheesh!
If you go back and watch the finale, Kai and Wylie both were very rude. There were times you could tell Caroline Rhea was trying to still do her job over their hooting and hollering to the crowd, along with the hand gestures and tongue sticking out.
Thanks for the apology Claire, I was really in a bad state that night. I couldn’t figure out why everyone thought I was acting so weird at the finale until I finally watched it. There were ponits where I was not even making any sense, Caroline Rhea would ask me a question and I would answer almost incomprehensibly so I can understand why people thought I was drunk. I even had no idea how out of it I was from the lack of eating and drinking, my family kept telling me they were worried about me and I was so incapable of thinking straight that I really thought I was ok. I promise I am a lot more articulate less insane on a day to day basis.
No problem
I hope you were able to recover okay and were not too dehydrated/ malnourished. I bet if I was in your situation I’d have been tempted to do the same thing. So, no worries
