Should Miss USA Give Up Her Crown? And Other Ridiculous Non-News.

For nearly two hours today, it seemed as if all of the news and blog outlets around the world could talk about was the possibility of The Donald making the decision to strip Tara Conner of her Miss USA crown.

In the end, Mr. Trump let her stay Miss (is it Ms.?) USA. But she has to perform her duties while in rehab.

Oh Boo Hoo! What did I just say about holiday partying and young women!

Keep your shirts on and your booze under control.

And by the way…if this were you or I who’d done this at work…damn straight we’d have our crown removed.

But she’s blonde and he’s Trump.

And speaking of trashy celebrity news…how nasty is it to dedicate an entire community blog to making fun of Rachael Ray? (The name of the group on “Live Journal” is Rachael Ray Sucks).

It’s one thing to blog about silly, vulgar Paris Hilton: she deserves it…I’m not sure “The Rach” does. It just seems so wasteful to spend an entire blog bashing some poor little cook:

About the community…

This community was created for people that hate the untalented twit known as Rachael Ray.

But that’s America for you…build ‘em up, then tear ‘em down.

I have always thought that both the Miss USA organization and the blogosphere were meant for better things.

I remember,a long time ago,a old woman, who;s husband died, was about to lose her home.Donald Trump paid off the house for her.I never forgot him for that. He;s a stand-up guy. What he gave this young lady, a second chance,is because he is that kind of guy.

  2. Christina says:

Great post, Kim – I agree with you all the way. :)

  3. Michelle says:

I never thought I’d see the day when Donald Trump would be the called on to pass judgment. As I recall not so long ago the tabloids were full of his exploits a la Miss Maples and now he’s called in to decide whether a woman deserves a scarlet letter A (for Alcohol this time) or not. Interesting. Glad he was merciful, it would look a bit hypocritcal.

    :)

Does anybody remember, with all the hullabaloo, anybody commenting on the fact that she broke the law? She was drinking while under age. I actually heard someone on the Rush Limbaugh show say that at least if she was going to drink, NY was the best place to do it since she wouldn’t be driving. HELLO!!!!!!!!!! She wasn’t old enough to drink! Some role model for my little girlto break the law, have no consequences, and still keep her crown.

Just for the record, had she been old enough to drink, I would still be disappointed but not upset. I am just wanting people to be held accountable so my little girl has someone to look up to. Am I asking too much?

    Hi Christina….

Isn’t it something? I think the “Christian Science Monitor” has even piped up on this one.

Who are we as a culture?

  6. Kim says:

    Hi Michelle,

I know isn’t the whole thing crazy? I guess as the owner of the Miss USA organization…he had to come across as “merciful”…good word.

    Rather than “You’re Fired?”

  7. Karen says:

Yes, the Rachel Ray blog is a bit much. Too bad people don’t spend their time doing more constructive things, like helping those in need.

  8. Kim says:

    Thanks Patrick.

I do agree that some people deserve a 2nd chance, but the Miss USA organization is very strict about how a person presents herself on behalf of the Miss USA title. She should have known better.

  9. Kim says:

    Kelly and Karen,

    Thanks for stopping by…

Again…what is up with our culture? And who are our role models for our kids?

btw…The ironic part about Karen’s comment is that Rachael, is in fact, very committed to several philanthropic organizations here in NYC.

  10. Jinna says:

No, she shouldn’t have had a second chance. She knew she was doing wrong but she just ignored who she was representing and disrespected her crown. Mr Trump should have set an example on her. There will definately be a repeat with another person in time to come. If Ms America went through a disgraceful punishment, then I think the same should have been applied in this case.

  11. Kim says:

    Hi Jinna,

    I’m with you.

    Thanks for stopping by…

  12. Blake says:

Tara Conner Miss USA was given a second chance from Donald Trump. From the press conference, it looks as if Tara is sincere about improving her public image. I like the comment to a reported, basically saying did you ever do anything wrong, would you not want to be forgiven. I agree will Donald trump and I think others also will agree in the poll.

    See for yourself: http://todayspolls.googlepages.com/tara_poll

  13. Kim says:

Thanks Blake and I’ll take a look at the poll…

Seems like a lot of hoopla over not too much.

  14. Karen says:

According to the poll, people don’t agree with his decision.

  15. Kim says:

    Hi Karen…

I’m starting to think the whole thing was a hoax to ultimately garner ratings for both Rosie and the upcoming Apprentice.

    Donald is no dope.

  16. Karen says:

I wouldn’t doubt it. Didn’t Paris Hilton’s sex tape get released right before her television show aired?

  17. Kim says:

LOL! Yup…and now we write blogs about a silly heiress!

  18. TRUTH says:

First of all, it bothers me that this decision was made by ONE person – Trump. Makes me wonder what it takes to change one man’s mind??? hmmm…. Whatever happened to the Miss USA Committee who made decisions?

Secondly, no, I don’t agree that she should have gotten a 2nd chance. Even if her crown were stripped, there are many opportunities for her to “rehab herself and still do well. The title needs to go to REAL ROLE Models (runners-up). One problem w/Western society is that we make our kids believe they are entitled to be STUPID because they are young. Certainly doesn’t have to be the case, and historically wasn’t necessarily the case for many centuries. Years ago, many youth had heavy responsibility, including taking care of family. Yes there is an element of mischievousness, but western culture has lost the element of WISDOM.

FIRE HER!!! We need TRUE role models. Hollywood and major sports figures certainly do not fill the role!

  19. Kim says:

    TRUTH

I have to believe that Mr. Trump conferred with the Miss USA committee as he was formulating his decision…although it is his company.
