Shoulder replacement surgery may allow return to sports

One of the first questions many potential joint replacement patients ask is if they will be able to play their favorite sports again. While all people are different and their recoveries vary depending on many issues, a new study has found that many people who enjoy participating in recreational sports are able to resume their activity after receiving a new shoulder.
The sports, mentioned in a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, included golf, fishing, swimming, tennis, and softball. While it could take up to 6 months to be able to fully return to their sport, most who played golf, tennis, or swam, had a good rate of returning to their activities. Virtually all who enjoyed fishing were able to return as well. Those who played softball, however, seemed to have the most difficulty returning to action. Only 2 out of 10 people resumed playing.
