Scrap Leather Ring

Scrap Leather Ring Again

I thought I’d add some leather-making fun in today’s post.

For a simple, but unique, ring (well, unique to this site, but no so unique once everyone borrows my idea from the site) all you need is a scrap of leather and a couple of rivets (well, you probably need a rivet setter, some string, a ruler, a leather hole punch and some scissors or a knife, but you know what I mean).

First, wrap the string snugly, but not tightly around the largest part of the finger that the ring will end up on.  Cut the string to match the measurement.  Now, place the string next to the ruler.  This is how long your ring will need to be.

Now, the width of the leather is up to you–provided it is wider than the rivets and that you can still bend your finger while wearing the ring, you will be just fine.

Cut a piece of leather that is the same width as your “ring” and is three “rivets” long.

Finally, rivet the smaller piece of leather onto the outside of the “ring” at the edge of the small piece and through the “ring” (it is often easier to punch holes with a leather punch before you attempt to rivet the leather pieces together).

Now, wear and enjoy.
