Singapore’s Double Helix Bridge
Singapore is planning a $68 million bridge in the shape of a DNA double helix, symbolizing life and continuity. Construction will begin at the end of 2006 and will be completed around 2009. Perfect. Just in time for my next move.

That’s only a single helix, isn’t it? A double helix is a spiral WITHIN a spiral, i.e the spiral itself is spiralling. So the bridge’s carriage walk would be turning in such a spiral as well, making it impossible to walk on. Or do I misunderstand, I don’t have a PhD… And surely Channel New Asia couldn’t be wrong…
shallowphil: Thanks for the comment! I don’t have a PhD in structural engineering but take a look at this picture and article. I think they truly are planning an innovative, first-of-its-kind bridge:
My dad’s one of the engineers working on that bridge! I’m sure it’ll be great!
