Skinny Bitch gets you talking, but does it get you skinny?

Since I first posted about this vegan diet book sensation (in this post and this post), the comments haven’t ceased to come in from readers all over the place who want to share their experiences with Skinny Bitch. The response is overwhelmingly positive, as readers report “aha moments” the book gave them regarding the cruelty of the meat industry or the crappiness of their diet.

But not everyone was sold on this vegan diet bible. Some found the tone to be excessively mean, or the veganism too extreme. Still, it sounds like most of those inclined to pick this book up in the first place are at least open to the idea of reducing (if not completely eliminating) the animal products in their diets.

So here’s what I’d love to know from those of you following the book’s eating guidelines: is the Skinny Bitch diet getting you skinny? Some of the earlier commenters reported quick and easy weight loss. Is the weight still off? Still coming off? And how do you feel? Share your experience!

    Deborah,

I would never go back to eating meat. I love animals way too much, and feel so much healthier as a vegetarian. But LMAO at the skinless boneless chicken!! lol!!

  2. Jordana says:

hey ladies, i just have a general question…
i ‘ve been doing sb for 10 days now, and only lost 1.5 pounds. But i drink A LOT of soy milk ( its everywhere in that book) and i really dont much about it… could this be the reason my not really losing? is soy milk really fattening? any tips?

    thanks ladies!

  3. Gina says:

In answer to Jordana’s question, are you also eating a lot of starches? Also, are you drinking sweetened soy milk?

I ask because I found that as soon as I started reducing the starches and sugary/sweet soy and almond milks, I started to lose weight.

I’ve been following SB for a month now and I love it. But it has taken some work not to become a “starch-atarian.”

I was finding I’d do a cereal or vegan waffle in the morning, then I’d have a pasta with veggies and fruit at lunch, then a rice dish at dinner. Plus if I had a snack, it would be a rice bar or some sort of veggie chip. I also found I was drinking a lot of flavored almond, rice or soy milks and the sugars add up there. So aside from the one or two fruits and the various veggies I would have to accompany my meals, I was really eating all starches and sugars.

Now that I have changed my snacks to be fruit or veggies and have lightened up on the flavored soy milks, I’ve lost 7 lbs. I also notice I feel great.

Given I’ve been trying to eat “healthy” and lose at least 5 lbs. for YEARS, to suddenly lose it in a month tells me I was eating all wrong. What I thought was “healthy” really wasn’t. Giving up the animal products has been the best thing I’ve done!

    Gina

I love animals too, but you have to eat meat to get all your neccessary minerals and vitamins. How do you think people in the 1800’s would have survived they did not have soy, and tofu. Plus I would rather starve than eat tofu, it looks and smells gross. It is how the food chain works, animals eat other animals. This seems to have been working since we have been here for millions of years. I will continue to eat my meat! (Love me a BIG steak & potatoes)

Wow, you’re quite simple aren’t you. First of all, if you really did care about animals you wouldn’t stand for the pure torture and suffering they endure. The meat/factory farm industry is more sickening than the most terrifying horror movie you’ve ever seen. Watch an undercover movie taken from a slaughter house, read a book on animal rights or just Google: “how are cows slaughtered?” If you can condone such torture then you need to do some serious soul searching. People have evolved beyond needing to eat meat. And I should hope they’ve evolved beyond acting like such flesh hungry barbarians. Food chain my ass. Evolve.

And fyi, “they” might not have had tofu in the 1800s (1. umm, random, 2. “they”? ), but I wonder if they had vegetables or fruits? You silly bitch. If you want to be a skinny healthy ethical bitch, go vegetarian. Better yet, go free range vegetarian or vegan.

I just started and I also noticed i was eating to many starches. I am going to eat more veggies and go grocery shopping soon! other than that I started monday and I have been feeling motivate to exercise and eat right. great motivation for me. by the way 100 years ago meat didn’t have so many chemicals and was safer to eat back then , But I love animals and even if it was safe I would be seeing the animal every time i eat.

I have used the SB on and off again – it’s very hard for me to stay truly vegan – I just don’t get enough calories – it’s not that I miss meat – I actually really like dairy products – and the alternatives are outside of my budget – so I have used my version of the modified skinny b – I only use turkey, fish and chicken, and nonfat dairy products (sorry I love animals – but I literally cannot afford vegan with both money/time) – I am very busy and this diet requires you to make many trips to the grocery store. I try not to keep packaged products or frozen products – so my pantry is full of spices, and my freezer is full of nothing but ice and some frozen fruit for smoothies. I’ve had a hard time giving up alcohol though – a nice glass of wine is really great sometimes!! – anyways – all in moderation. I wouldn’t say I lost a ton of weight – but I just feel better about my body in general – and feel like I’m feeding it good food

I have been doing the SB plan for 10 days now and I think the scale is about to budge in my favor. My clothes are all getting lose but I have not yet lost pounds. I am going full throddle, no dairy, coffee, meat, all organic produce and I am also counting calories. At 43, losing weight is nearly impossible and I have tried everything to lose the 10 pounds I have gained in the last 2 years and this is working. I am a former milk guzzler and butter user and oh I can’t forget all the cheese I used to eat. I want to tell everyone I know about this book but I have to be careful not to preach. I also run 3 miles a day, 5 days a week and I am drinking my water again. My one vice is organic red wine, 2 glasses a night. I can live without coffee, not my wine. : )
Keep up the good work all you skinny bitches. I am done eating meat and dairy. I just wish others felt the same way. The chapter on factory farming changed my life. I won’t ever go back.

  8. Valeria says:

I have a question: I am currently on birth control (its a low hormone pill) and I was wondering that even though I go through with this, it won’t help any because the pill make you gain weight. Honestly I have been steady weight but I don’t lose any either. I don’t want to stop using birth control but I really want to try this.

I started skinny bitch in June full throttle. I was 144 lbs 5′10″ size 4-6, jeans size 28. I lost 19 lbs so far! If you do it, IT WORKS!!!!!!!! I am 125 and cannot believe how small my thighs are!!!! My heaviest a few years ago was 175 and I was wearing size 32 pants. I then became vegetarian and hovered around 145, vegan was the final step and NO sugar. I also paid attention to the order I ate foods in!!! I love skinny bitch!!!! Changed my LIFe!!!!!!!

  10. Val says:

Have just started reading SB, totally vegan for 48 hours, feel really good, sleeping really good and my mental clarity is improving, wasn’t bad, I have just been tired for 10 years, LOL! I laughed while discussing this with my daughter, i said, “I think I can literally feel the swelling going down in my body, may be in my mind, but it is how I feel physically”. This book rocks, bought one for my daughter for Christmas, under the tree, my mom and sister have both ran out to buy and one thing is for sure, I will never eat a piece of meat without seeing the mental picture of animals being slaughtered. Will make no promises this early in the game, but I can’t even imagine eating rotting meat. I am a healthcare provider, have a bachelors degree with a heavy concentration in microbiology, nutrition and anatomy and physiology, all of this books content makes sense. Hope you all continue to post your postive comments and success along the way…..I want to be a skinny bitch!!!!!

  11. Alicia says:

i love this, was already semi vegan but struggled to go back to hardcore vegan until i read this god i love them for writing this.im gonna pick and choose { i dont live w/out my black coffee;non organic;and healthy proccessed foods in moderation} on 2nd day and feel great tho do feel hungry seing as i only have fruit and coffee for breakfast but only the normal amount {of hunger} and as i get more used to having this lifestyle/eating about 1000 cal ill be less hungry :) . have i mentioned i feel great?plus i dont want to overeat/binge or purge AT ALL that alone is heaven for me :) but i am curious {very} to see what my weight will come to be after i get back down to 137 seeing as this is a lifestyle change not a diet for me ill continue to lose weight dont want to get too thin though im 5′6” and 18 yrs of age and dont want to be underweight but if i am as long as im at least 100 lbs i dont care thatd only be bout 15 lbs underweight for me and would rather have the skinny bitch lifestyle!happinness=recovery=health all in one plus getting back to my hardcore vegan self:)plus this way i just have to ‘use my head’ when i eat out/at a friends so i dont eat too much, hoping itll get to the point where i dont have to think bout calories or weigh myself AT ALL which it will, just might take a while, but willing to be healthy/happy this way ^_^ im ecstatic

  13. lauren says:

if you said “people didnt have soy in 1800 and survived” you are an idiot. in the 1800’s the life expectancy was also a hell of a lot lower than now.

  14. Heidi says:

I lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks! I feel great. When I got started I promised myself that this was not going to feel like punishment. I knew that if it did, I wouldn’t stick to it. I seriously eat as much as I want and I don’t eat anything I don’t want to eat.

  15. Kay says:
