Skipping Insulin To Lose A Couple Pounds Isn’t The Smartest Thing To Do!

Diabetes UK said up to one in three female diabetes sufferers under age 30 may be skipping insulin shots for weight related reasons, a practice known as diabulimia, The Daily Mail said Wednesday.

scale.jpgI have now seen it all! Come on people, are you kidding me? This is scary indeed. So instead of carrying 3-5 extra pounds, you choose to have heart disease, retinopathy, PVD, amputations, kidney failure and no eyesight?

We need to come up with a better way to transition juvenile diabetics into adult diabetics. There needs to be a support system and carefully address the needs of adolescent diabetics.

Teenagers and young adults need appropriate and rapid access to psychological care and support to help them manage their condition effectively.

Let’s hope that this doesn’t become chic and the new “in thing” globally. We have to learn to take better care of ourselves and to love ourselves more, don’t you think?
