As a parent, I've always been protective of my kids' sleep because I think it's so important. As I tell them, sleep is necessity, it is not a luxury. It's like food and drink. I don't want them to skip meals or miss sleep.

Tired or not, mine head up the stairs between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. seven days a week, unless there's a very special event going on. No sleepovers except for close friends' birthdays.

They get up between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. every day, even on weekends. I don't generally ever have a problem getting them up in the morning and they never fall asleep during the day, even on long car rides.
