Sleepless Nights? Here’s a Yoga Pose That Can Help

It’s hard for me to find a friend or family member who isn’t losing a little sleep these days. Tough economy, job security, pension worries, the environment, health concerns. While the future does look brighter, there is a lot to think about.
If you’re feeling restless before bedtime, too, there is a yoga pose that can help. The Corpse Pose, or Savasana is a wonderful tool to try. Here are the simple steps that should help you nod off a little sooner:
Corpse Pose, Savasana:
-Lie down on your back
-Allow your feet fall out to either side of your body
-Place your arms out alongside your body, but just slightly separated from the body
-Turn your palms so they face upwards
-Relax your entire body, including your facial muscles. Allow your body to feel heavy
-Breathe in and out, naturally
-Deepen your breath, then begin to move your fingers and toes, awakening your body
-Bring your knees into your chest, rolling over to one side, keeping your eyes closed
-Slowly bring yourself back up into a sitting position
When finished, you should feel a great deal more relaxed and ready to close your eyes and drift off. I’ve been making this my last pose of the day lately, and it is working for me. Give it a try.
Peace and Sweet Dreams.

We used to do this one at the end of each boot camp session- it was sometimes TOO relaxing, makes you want to fall asleep rather than start the workday:)
