SmartShopper® Grocery List Organizer

smart-shopper.jpgYou see this little gadget? Yep, I want one. Now I am pretty frugal when it comes to well, anything really, so you won’t usually find me chomping at the bits for the newest gadget. Unless it’s something like this that I feel will really make a difference in my life.

This little gadget here is the SmartShopper® Grocery List Organizer and I want one. Oh wait, I already said that. :)

I saw this product on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch (one of my favorite shows!) and I was amazed at how this guy saw a problem and came up with a solution. His girlfriend had post-it notes with grocery items they needed strung all over the place. He knew there had to be a way to help her keep this all organized.

When he told his friend about the idea, his friend said he literally fell out of his chair.

So, what is this product all about? Here’s a description from the SmartShopper website:

SmartShopper is an easy-to-use electronic device that helps you make your grocery list. Adding an item to your list is easy. Simply press record and speak the name of the item or items you wish to add. Press Print, and SmartShopper prints your list categorized by grocery departments such as “frozen foods” or “produce”. It’s that easy!

Sounds pretty cool huh?

Now, I had a feeling the price tag was going to be a little above what I am used to paying for something to help me with my grocery list. I usually buy paper. It’s pretty reasonable.

What’s it going to cost you to get one of these? About $133.00 plus you will need paper refills from time to time. Now, you may be asking why in the world would anyone, myself included, spend that kind of money on a grocery list maker. Well for me, it’s all about saving me time. This will save me time at home because all I have to do (as well as other members of my household) is press the record button and say milk. Nice.

Then, when it is time to go to the store all I have to do is press print and it prints out a categorized list, which saves me oodles of time at the grocery store. I just really like this product and as a busy work-at-home mom, anything that can save me time is worth looking into.

I have no idea when I plan on buying this, but as soon as I do, I guarantee you I will post a full review about it.

Hey, if you have one of these please let me know what you think of it. Here’s another product idea that made me stop and ask myself “Why didn’t I think of that?”

You should try pitching the company to see if they’d be willing to send you one for free for review purposes! That’s pretty nifty though, I like it.

Already did. :) Now I’m awaiting an answer. That woud be cool huh? I really want one.

  3. I’m a little skeptical of voice recording devices. I used to have a cell phone that I could program people’s names with my voice and then it was supposed to be easier to call people. It drove me nuts b/c it would not recognize the names. When I call a voice activated system, I get annoyed at those too! Hope you have better luck with stuff like that than I do.

@Karen – I’ll definitely let you know how it goes if I get one. I once had the same phone! It NEVER worked. I would have to say the person’s name in the exact same tone as I programmed it. It was very annoying. I finally gave up and now I’m back to the old fashioned dialing system, lol!

@Mary – I’ll have to go check that out. It sounds great. Thanks!

    sorry for the messy link…

No problem Mary. Actually, I could have cleaned it up for you. Guess I was in lazy mode. :)

    Hi Julie,

I have another product called ScanAndShop which does about the same thing plus a lot more. It uses a bar code scanner to input the items and it is much more reliable than voice. You can also key in the items manually. If you are interested, I’ll send you a unit to review.

Eric Yeun – Definitely interested and would love to review it. Please email me at julie.bonner at b5media.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
