Snack Storage

Four boxes of popcorn, five boxes of fruit snacks and three boxes of granola bars. All of those boxes take up a ton of space in the pantry, but what else can you do? The individually wrapped packages inside sure won’t stack tidily if they’re taken out of the box. Actually, there are quite a few solutions for easy snack storage. I checked around with my family and here are our storage solutions:

My mom has a drawer in her island that holds all the individual packets of fruit snacks, granola bars, or other snacks. It works really well for her. I use a drawer in one of the kitchen cupboards to hold all the bagged snacks we eat. A friend uses a really large glass cookie jar to store hers.
Popcorn bags? They’re so slippery and awkward to store. I ended up using a big enamelware pot to hold four boxes worth of them. It is the perfect solution for my home. I guess most people don’t have this much popcorn, because no one else I know needed a solution for storing it!
Do you have a great snack storage solution?

When my kids were young, we had problems not only storing the snacks, but with accusations of one having more than the other two and the associated bickering.
I solved the problem by buying three plastic baskets from the dollar store. They fit well on the lower shelf of my pantry. When groceries were brought home, snacks were divided into the baskets and the kids no longer had restrictions as to how many snacks they could have – they just knew that what was in their basket had to last until next grocery run.
It worked amazingly well.
My girlfriend Robyne has the best snack solution I’ve seen. If I had just a little more pantry space, I would be doing it. she has a very inexpensive 20 pocket shoe organizer on the inside of her pantry door. The pockets are clear, so you can see what’s inside each…she keeps everything in it’s own pocket, fruit snacks, granola bars, easy mac, lipton noodles…anything that fits has it’s own slot. She eliminated so many boxes this way! Love it.
Marijke,
That is a great solution for kids who help themselves to snacks. I have to keep track of who had those 100 calorie cupcake snacks and who didn’t to avoid cries of, “He had two and I didn’t have any!” and your way takes care of the whole problem.
Heather,
Your friend has a wonderful idea. I wish I had a door on my pantry!
