Sometimes diabetes isn’t the worst of your problems

Okay, this one’s a break from the usual.

A federal judge in Ohio delayed the scheduled execution of cult leader and former Community of Christ lay minister Jeffrey Lundgren so that he could join a lawsuit by five other death row inmates who are legally challenging the state’s use of lethal injection for executions.

In his request, the 56 year-old Lundgren claimed to be at even greater risk of unusual pain and suffering during his execution because he is overweight and diabetic.

Ohio has experienced problems in the past with lethal injection, including a delay in an execution last May stemming from an inmate suffering a collapsed vein during the procedure.

Lundgren was convicted of killing a family of five in 1989. Witnesses said that the family, members of Lundgren’s breakaway cult, were not as enthusiastic about the cult as he would have liked.

I’m looking for a joke or at least a snotty remark to make here, but really, this one just sort of plays on its own. I am opposed to the death penalty like the good pinko commie hippie liberal that I am, but I’m not sure I’m any extra against it because the guy has the Beedies.
