Congratulations to Sonia Sotomayor for her confirmation to the Supreme Court today. She’s the first Hispanic in United States history to be made a court justice. The senate confirmed her appointment today 68-31.

For those unfamiliar, she is 55, raised in the South Bronx, and has been a federal judge for the last 17 years. She’s also a Type 1 Diabetic, which some folks tried to use as a reason for her not to be sworn in. I think that’s nonsense, but that’s the world we live in. As a woman and Type 1 Diabetic myself, I’m happy to see history being made today. I think Sotomayor will bring a new dimension to the court and help better represent the U.S. today.

Her swearing in is this Saturday.
