Southwest Airlines to Allow Pets in Cabins

Southwest Airlines used to not allow animals in the cabin of an aircraft unless they were there for medical reasons.

However, the airline faced a conundrum. They’re the only major airline left that doesn’t charge for two pieces of luggage (fees kick in at three), but at the same time they needed to bring in more revenue without upsetting customers. One great solution? Allow pets to fly in the cabin for a small fee.
Tickets for pets became available June 1, and staring June 17th, you’ll be able to bring your small pet (they must be small enough to fit under an airline seat comfortably) on your flight with you for $75 each way, which is still cheaper than the industry standard.
Though there will be a limit of five pets per flight, they also plan to outfit their terminals with spots where animals can do their business between flights.
I think this is an excellent move by Southwest, what do you think?

I read about this the other day. How are they handling it when other passengers are allergic to or terrified of dogs? (I’m not; I was just curious.) Is there a warning when you book your flight that dogs may be traveling?
I sometimes wish I could bring my two labs when I fly. But them running up and down the aisle jumping on people would probably be too much
I’ve wondered that too – especially with the recirculated air in the cabins.
In my experience with other people having pets on board, I’ve never had a reaction, which is saying a lot because I’m pretty much allergic to anything with fur, oddly enough
This was the only reason I didn’t fly with them very often. Sometimes I need to take my small dog. Southwest has the BEST customer services, lowest prices, and no hidden fees. Congrats to Southwest for allowing in-cabin pets as it is a great business move.
