Speaking of Getting Moving…

…that’s why things have been kind of quiet around here: My husband and I just moved into our dream house! The move itself was a little traumatic and we’re still adjusting, but it’s so exciting!

And boy oh boy, was it GREAT exercise. Packing, carrying boxes, loading and unloading the moving truck, wrestling the cats into their carriers, sweeping and vacuuming like my life depended on it… I feel very strong. And now that the hard stuff is done, I’m craving the physical activity I enjoyed during the move itself. I want to walk more, I’m more aware of my muscles and how they feel, and I love how much strength I developed over the last two weeks! It’s been really amazing.

Now, I read somewhere recently that housework doesn’t count as your 20-30 minutes a day of exercise, but I contend that it can if done right. And let’s face it, doing the laundry yourself burns more calories than having someone else do it! Don’t cut out those physical things just because they “don’t count” — throw yourself into them to get as much as possible about of them when you can’t always get to the gym.

This sounds dumb, but I’ve started doing a little boogie while I vacuum, and I swear my butt is shrinking. I’ve also been working on making more trips as I carry things from one side of the house to the other just to get the blood flowing, and it’s definitely increased my energy. And, this is good/bad, I’ve started doing housework more frequently because (1) frankly I’ve been slacking on it and (2) because it gets me up and around and it’s better for me than sitting on the couch and watching Gilmore Girls reruns.

Read more about our move here and see pictures here.

How do you get moving every day?

I get moving with Pilates and Holy Yoga. Holy Yoga is Christian based yoga, not traditional yoga. I find these 2 exercises keep me in great shape.
