There’s less money for your health care, Valentine’s Day isn’t quite over at Mental Health Notes, and you, too, can be an A.S.S.
- You still have until tonight at midnight to enter MHN’s Love: It’s All In My Head Valentine’s Day Contest – so get over there and tell me one way you can show love for yourself!
- MHN introduced a new feature – the A.S.S Award – and TMZ.com was the first recipient. Lucky dogs. But don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for more winners.
- Valentine’s Day was also Theme Day here at the Science & Health Channel. Find out what I had to say about heart health and mental health (yep, that’s right – at the same time) and then check out what the rest of our bloggers contributed!
- Once again, my health is less important than war artillery.
- Nature vs. Nurture has always been cause for speculation in the mental health world. Dr. Thomas Insel, director of the National Institutes of Mental Health, says, “It is not a question of genes versus environment. It is a question of how genes interact with whatever the environmental factors might be. And that is probably true of all of the disorders that we call mental illness.” Find out more about the current studies surrounding mental illness and nature vs. nurture.
- I’ve always thought CFS blogger Laura Bzowy and I had a lot in common; thanks to current research regarding chronic pain and the brain, I’m certain of it.
- Is serotonin on it’s way out? According to new research, “imbalances in the activity of an enzyme called GSK3ß may be closer to the root cause of mental illnesses than are low serotonin levels.”
