Stimulate Women’s Economy

So, seems these days everyone has a political reason to shop here or boycott there.

Did you know women are opening their own businesses at rapid, never-before-seen rates? 13E9EAE5-DDA7-447C-B920-1883752A49C9.jpg (Over The Top Aprons)

I, personally, believe it’s because women want to work, find fulfillment and validation in work, need the economic stability of work, but don’t want to pay the unnecessary price of a patriarchal workweek which ignores the existence of children and women’s need for flexible hours.

I want to see these new women-owned businesses succeed.

My odds are on women changing this economy with these new businesses and their new business models that put children and families first. We’ll get equal pay, probably only partially because the government insists on it, but because women will become the bosses in our new economy.

This Christmas, where ever possible, I want to shop from women-owned companies.

Have you checked out the super COOL stuff on Etzy? These are magnificent examples of The Feminine Arts and all of these women are self-employed with their own little businesses. There’s even a pledge to buy only “Mom Made” stuff.

Click around the Blogosphere and you’ll find tons of women who are selling brilliant items.

I had lunch with a friend yesterday who is also a web designer. She’s currently a semi-independent consultant, but has been offered a job at a local design firm. She said the stability would be nice, and the firm does great work. But she doesn’t want to trade the flexibility of working at home, on her own schedule, for a 5-day-a-week regular office schedule. Also, nobody else in the firm has kids, and she thinks they just wouldn’t understand when she needs more flexibility in her schedule. She said she’s almost certainly not taking the job.

  4. The internet has made working from home a possibility. I’m thankful for the opportunity to work from home and build my career while being able to take care of other responsibilities.

And we can bless that in other women. We can and we should.

Choice between Disney and Etzy – Choose Etzy.

We will stimulate a different kind of economy. One that supports women.

You may even be able to earn a living at it – just check out all the women who are opening their own Etzy Stores and online businesses and make it a point to Stimulate Women’s Economy. [...]
