Summer Boredom

June 22, 2005 by admin

My kids have been out of school for almost four weeks now and luckily boredom has not set in – they don’t have time. They are staying busy with summer school and jobs. but what do you do about kids who cannot find jobs or too young? If you work outside the home the problem is magnified as it is difficult to get them places.

What are you doing with your kids this summer?

When I was a kid my mom got me into camp counselling. It gave me somewhere to go and you can start Jr. Counselling right after you’re too old for camp. 12, I think.

I was miffed at losing my lazing-around days, but it was good and got me out of the house five days a week.

well, it’s past summer and i just saw this post, and we’re homeschoolers so our situation is a lot different from most, but i would say, in the summer, give teens LOTS of time to explore personal passions — and i don’t mean the opposite sex:) — could be anything from projects they wouldn’t normally have time for in school or a sport they haven’t tried or a musical instrument they haven’t played. to say "i’m bored" is not acceptable in our household — we keep looking until we find something that strikes their fancy.
