Summer Camps and Activities

camp_mom.jpgSo far this summer we haven’t done too much – it’s like the reality of no school is just beginning to hit. Last week was spent playing with friends, but this week the natives are getting a bit restless!

My youngest daughter is doing a general arts and crafts day camp for kids her age.

My oldest son is doing a weekly class on the LEGO Mindstorms NXT – so he can learn to program robots.

And that leaves my middle child – a nearly 9 year old gymnast who does not play with toys, but loves animals and cooking.  What am I going to do with her? She asked today if she could go to “Cooking Camp”. I am not one bit surprised. She has tivo-ed all the cooking shows on TV and watches them every chance she gets.  I just did a search for kids cooking classes in our area and found YoungChefsAcademy. It looks like they are opening one up near us this summer – I will have to check it out.

Are your kids doing camps this summer? If so, what kinds and do you have any you recommend?

I have one at camp for 3 weeks, and, the others watching too much TV and asking for food interspersed with swimming.

The next one goes to camp for 3 weeks in about 2 weeks while the first one comes home and uses the phone until school starts with intermittent sports camps.

My oldest, 15 is taking two classes in a Summer School type program, where he will actually earn some credit. This is only for the month of July, 8 – 12.

My 11 (almost 12) year old daughter is going to be in two different basketball camps, but those are each only one week.

My 7 & 10 year old hated camp last year so much that I didn’t even think about sending them again.
