Summer Starts with a Splash

One of my fondest memories as a kid was spending most of my summer at the pool. I remember waiting in line to go in on opening day during Memorial Day Weekend and I remember riding my bike to swim practice just about every morning, cheering on teammates, and making new friends. Summer swim team was just so much fun!
My youngest started summer swim team yesterday and based on her first practice, I think she is going to have so much fun, too. She was in a lane with about 5 other kids all her size – and one of them was a boy from her class. She wasn’t the fastest and she certainly wasn’t the slowest. I watched from the lobby (she swims at an indoor facility) and she looked very comfortable. And when they got to the scary part for her – diving off the edge – she mustered all the courage she could and she did it – and then had the biggest grin on her face ever. Now she can’t wait to get back to the pool and do it again.
Our summer looks like it is going to be a busy one! My oldest wants to doing summer league ice hockey and go to hockey camp one week. My middle one will have gymnastics practice 4 days a week and wants to do a week of horse camp, and my youngest will be growing her fins and turning into a fish!
Based on yesterday’s big splash – I am thinking this is going to be a great summer. How about you? Are your kids busy with activities during the summer or are you still trying to decide how the keep them entertained this summer?
