Summertime Lunchbox Musings

Cool Mom Picks Back to School Guide
Still in the first week of August and Charlie has been calling happily for the schoolbus and was very merry when, last night, (after asking me) he put a juice in his lunchbox. He’ll probably want to keep the same blue LL Bean one he’s been using, but the Cool Mom Picks 2008 Back to School Shopping Guide has some other options, such as the bento-ware from Laptop Lunches (might appeal to Charlie’s sense of order). On the other hand, the mod bento lunch box might do the trick—-yes, this is turning into a post about lunchboxes but what other time of the school day is so important?

I thought the mod bento might be a little difficult to open… The laptop bento box is probably easier to handle.

My son loves the laptop lunchbox. He knows he has to eat something from every container (but doesn’t always!). It also forces me to get beyond my rut of the same sandwich/pirate booty offerings daily!

Kind of OT for this thread, but maybe a back-to-school item.
Someone forwarded this to me, and I thought that it might be of use or interest to review–
Autism Speaks School Community Tool Kit
The Autism Speaks School Community Tool Kit is a broadly based support, envisioned for use by staff in all areas of a school population, with learners from kindergarten through graduation, who present with the highly variable skills and challenges characteristic of the spectrum that represents autism. As such, some of this information will be more necessary—and more relevant—to some users than others.

On topic–those lunchboxes are extremely cool…how do you find these websites?

  4. I’ve downloaded that kit (all 200+ pages)—-off to review it! Would love to know what you think.

How do I find these websites—clicking on way too many links and snooping around “momhood”-sort of websites (while on a break from reading “the latest” about certain theories of autism causation……)

  5. So I’ve been working my way through the School Community Tool Kit—separate sections for teachers, paras, bus drivers, office staff, custodial staff. Much mention of behavioral supports and positive reinforcement (Linda Meyer, who used to be the director of the Alpine School and is now President of COSAC, was on the board to produce this document.) (And also Sallie Bernard.)

How cool! They have Maine Whoopee pies listed there! The best are the pumpkin whoopee pies!
