I don't understand the UC reasoning for college admissions: "A lot of excellent kids are eliminated from consideration on trifling grounds." ?!?

It is now "trifling" grounds to be unable to acheive a decent score on a standardized exam, but more "equitable" to class rankings?!?! So, a student who places high at a crap school is more eligible for college than one who places in the middle of an extremely tough school? Class ranking is totally arbitrary - it is all dependent on the standards of the school, which is, sad to say, not consistent from school to school, state to state, private vs. public, etc.

And, what about home schooled kids - they are are always at the top of their "class"!!

I guess I just don't get it! Apparently logic isn't a required subject anymore...
