Are your kids watching the Olympics? Kids can learn some life lessons from the Olympics.

Girls are having sex for all the wrong reasons.

More and more college grads are moving back home.

Some high school and colleges are offering incentives to get students to bike to class rather than drive. One school in Wisconsin is even giving away free bikes and helmets as long as students agree to not drive to school.

Rather than spending a lot of money on the latest gadget for your kids’ birthday, spend some time together instead.

There are some things parents can do to help their teen transition in to high school.

Nintendo just continues to amaze me. First they came out with the Wii, which I love. And then the Wii Fit which literally grumbles at me if I wait to long between workouts. And now they are coming out with a new game to prep students for the SATs; FutureU.

I’ve “friended” my son on Facebook too, and feel honored to be let in to this part of his life. I feel a reciprocal duty to be fairly non-participatory in the conversations he has with his friends there. He has given me his trust, and by honoring that I also get to know more about what is going on in his life (and trust me, if I really *did* ever see something I needed to act upon, I would. But I’m a firm believer in “choosing the right battles!”)

I do have a little Facebook dilemma, however, involving not my own son but another friend’s daughter — and would appreciate your input! http://www.almostgotit.com/2008/08/11/on-remaining-relevant-solvent-and-maternal/

  2. Did you see this College Candy article with the tee “I friended your mom on FB?”
    http://www.collegecandy.com/haha/10039

It was a hoot…especially since this just happened to me when I got an unsolicited invite and my gal pal mom friend said, ‘Hey! Wait a sec, how come my son friended YOU and not ME!?’

I told her it was ‘cuz he likes to keep up with the techno tribe on Shaping Youth…he was the first one to agree from a kids’ perspective on the data mining article I wrote when they did the whole Beacon bit:

Anyway, love your blog, let’s chat when I return from hiatus about mutual synergies? Best, Amy
