Twinkies, diabetes, increasing medication, this all is creating a real bummer feeling. What's going on in our wacky country?

I recall reading about Obama and how he's actually lost weight on the campaign trail, even when he has to make appearances at all the mom and pop greasy spoon restaurants. When he orders food like a cheeseburger or pancakes, he always orders it to go. Who gets pancakes to go, for crying out loud! When he gets in his vehcile, no one can recall seeing him eat more than a bite or two. Usually, he doesn't eat it at all. What he does eat is salmon, rice and brocoli. And he sticks to that kind of dietary regimen doggedly. I gotta hand it to the guy. He's got discipline.

It's like Michael Pollen, the great nutrition and food writer, said in the NY Times Magazine a while back: Eat food (meaning real food, not packaged stuff), not too much, mostly plant-based. That's all anyone needs to know for lifelong dietary health.
