Sunprinted muslin

Make Art Monday!

Ahhhhh…we’ve finally gotten to that beautiful time of the year in New England when the sun is beginning to be direct enough and warm enough to do sunprinting! This is a great time to pull out your unbleached muslin, paint up a storm, and leave it outside in the sun to dry…with a few well-chosen images on top, of course.

Hey, how’d you do this? It’s gorgeous! And being in Phoenix, I am not lacking for sun! Do you use a special kind of paint?

I use Golden’s and Jacquard’s acrylics, but I’m willing to bet that most good quality acrylics will work fine. Some colors work better than others…you have to experiment a bit. Just paint away, and stick them outside in the direct sun while they’re still wet. Put stuff on top of them – it’s the shade that causes the print. The sunny part dries faster and wicks the paint away from the shaded areas! Try salt too :)

Pebeo setacolor *translucent* paints work beautifully too. Just don’t try their opague paints for sunprinting – doesn’t work!

    Thanks for the tip, Chloe!
