‘Super-nannies’ to help parents
“Super-nannies” are to be brought in to try to improve parenting in 77 areas of England with high levels of anti-social behaviour, PM Tony Blair has said. Full article
I think this is a brilliant idea! One that might even prove to be very effective should anyone here in the U.S. care enough to provide such services.
Given that 37 percent of U.S. births are now out of wedlock, I’d say there’s a huge problem brewing and one that will spin far more out of control if we all don’t pitch in and get a handle on it!
As a parent of boys, though they are only 13 at this time, I’ve had several discussions with them about this very problem! I’ve told them girls are human, they make mistakes, some have deep emotional issues that may tell them that a baby would ‘fix’ things – and UNLESS they’ve actually gone WITH the girl to the clinic and SAW the Depo shot being given, they are NOT to trust other forms of birth control. There’s too much room for error.
Am I wrong? What do parents of girls think? Would you rather take your daughter for the birth control SHOT and know that she’s at least protected that much – or the pill – where she can easily ‘forget’ or ‘plan’ a pregnancy?
I strongly believe if more parents took a more proactive and realistic stand - didn’t think their kid wouldn’t do such things – we’d have a much better grip on all our children and the growing problem of babies out of wedlock.
This is a topic I’m very passionate about, can you tell?
I know a man who has 6 children walking around out there without a father. The mother’s (yes, there are 6 mothers) never held him responsible and even if they did, the man doesn’t hold a job long enough to keep track of him and even if they did, he’d rather be sent to jail than pay anything.
I also know a 14-year-old girl that learned from a friend that “when women have babies, the government provides them with a nice apartment, money for food and fun things.”
Is this the message we want our children to hear? Would you want your son dating a girl who secretly had that belief?
It’s going to take an army of Super Nannies to win this battle.
