Supporting siblings in retirement
So do you call this a “side dish” to the “sandwich”?
Few people are saving enough for their own retirement, yet many say they are concerned they’ll have to help support siblings as well as aging parents in the coming years, a study shows.
When my uncle (my dad’s brother) was sick, my dad thought about taking him in since his (my uncle’s) financial situation wasn’t all that great. However, my dad ultimately realized that it wasn’t a good idea.
I had never really thought about this until I read the article. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to worry about an adult sibling (not someone with special needs) and plan for your own retirement, be concerned about your parents and your own children.
I guess I can add this one to my list of advantages of being an only child.

Ok, I am the youngest of SIX. This does not bode well. (Except they are way more responsible than I am, so there’s that.)
We have on and off over the years had to … assist … my brother-in-law in various ways, and this… well, the thought of having to do it straight through retirement scares the heck out of me.
