Tackle Michael Vick for Dog Food

In a hilarious but very well deserved jab at Michael Vick, a Pennsylvania animal rescue is running newspaper ads in cities that the Eagles visit to announce they will donate five bags of dog food to the home team’s local shelter each time Vick is tackled during a game.

Zootoo.com reported on this story yesterday. The rescue group running the ads is Main Line Animal Rescue. Their mission is to rescue and place abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals. They fight against puppy mills as well, providing useful tips on how to spot a puppy mill.
What do you think about Main Line Animal Rescue’s ads?
I think they’re a clever way to denounce Michael Vick’s participation in the NFL while at the same time bringing attention to the needs of local shelters. The ad also encourages readers to volunteer at animal shelters. Whether you agree with the ads or not, some shelter pups are getting extra food this year!

I love it! It is good when people can take something so negative and reinforce it with something positive!
I love this!!!!! This is great. It’s no different than when other places run the same kind of thing. It’s a win-win for everyone, Vick gets hit a couple more times and shelters get more food.
Glad to see the positive responses. I’m wondering if this annoys any Eagles fans.
I’m an Eagles season ticket holder and I can tell you that many Eagles fans and former fans are still very much against the Michael Vick signing. I could not bring myself to attend a game until today.
The reason I attended is that some who oppose the signing have been staying at home, often selling their tickets, allowing pro-Vick supporters to attend the games in force, giving the impression that he has wide support. I was truly surprised at how many of the seats in my area alone were attended by “new people” (since they are season tickets, the same people usually attend year after year)
I am proud of Main Line Animal Rescue for their clever stand on this issue. Many of us have been “quietly” protesting, selling the tickets for a profit and donating to animal shelters. I am most disappointed in the Eagles organization, not only for signing Vick (after all, the Eagles publicly prided themselves on the importance of character prior to this signing), but beyond that, pledging to make it right and then so far doing not much of anything. I am still waiting for them to sponsor a Animal Humane Awareness day at a home game similar to their Breast Cancer Awareness. Local shelters could be represented, fans could be asked to bring cans of pet food for donation to animal shelters, Eagles could sell promotional items with proceeds to benefit animals, etc. Please, Eagles, make this right; your fan base is still divided even though there are many attempts to sweep it under the rug…
Cindy, Thanks for your eloquent comment! I hope the Eagles will listen.
