Tag-Teaming the Croup

From the “Yet-another-reason-it’s-really-nice-to-be-married” Department comes this item:
On Wednesday I had to be on the road a little after 4:00am in order to spend a 12 hour-day on site with a client. While it has already been established that I’m the early bird of the house, I maintain 4am is an ungodly hour no matter what anyone else says. Suffice to say, by the time the day ended I was exhausted and in bed by 9 o’clock.

Cue Jake, who around midnight began barking like a baby seal. We’ve playing the croup game before, so we chose to deal with it at home instead of trooping off to the ER. About an hour into the vigil Kerri saw that I was done, and she sent me back to bed. She and Jake hunkered down on the couch in a vain attempt to rest, while I headed back upstairs to get a few more hours of much needed sleep.
It is now Thursday morning, and I must head into work and leave Kerri to herd the squirrels on a couple meager hours of toddler-ridden sleep. That is one of the disadvantages of being in charge at a small office. There is, as Newton might have predicted, at least one advantage to being in charge: I took a long lunch and let Kerri duck out for a quick nap. That evening Kerri was again able to head back upstairs for some more sleep, while I tended to dinner, baths and such.
Yet one more reason I am thankful for Kerri…
And to all of you who are doing or have done the parent-thing on your own: My hats off to you!
