Take A Day Off And Relieve Some Stress

Everyone should have at least one day a week when they can do anything they want to do – sleep in, catch up on favorite blogs, read Saturday Sanity (*ahem*). I know, we’re actually supposed to have two days like this – the weekend – but given today’s world of high-paced work routines, many of us either can’t take two days off or just don’t want to take two days off.
Whether you can’t or don’t want to, you still need a break to help reduce stress. It’s that simple.
I usually fall somewhere in the middle. I can take two days off, but I wouldn’t be as up-to-speed as I like, so I don’t take two days off.
In any event, I’m taking today off. Sure, I’ll look at some work, maybe write or edit a few things, but I’m only doing it because I want to. As soon as I feel pressed, I’ll stop.
If today’s your day, you’re in luck. Mental Health Notes has a ton of information for you to check out in today’s Saturday Sanity. What better way to zone out and enjoy your day off than by leisurely keeping yourself up-to-date with the goings on in the world of mental health?
- The Stanford Prison Experiment website is the home of (literally) the Standford University research during a 1971 experiment dealing with psychology and prison life. Apparently, they simulated prison life to dip their toes into the psychology of imprisonment. Interesting, but I’m also on the hunt for research done in real prison settings.
- Mental Health Risks from Air-Travel is an article I meant to include in Does Mental Illness Make Travel Difficult? This information also goes along nicely with Laura’s current discussion about fear worsening CFS symptoms.
- Facing Combat Without Stress? – Excellent reading about the “qualities that fuel resilience in the face of stress” and an article that I may dissect further right here at Mental Health Notes.
- Ever heard of the “right-digit effect”? Sales Prices: How Right Digits Affect Perception of Discounts explains it. It also gives me just one more reason to be happy I take the time to me a smart consumer.
- Researchers are working on a brain implant that could prevent epileptic seizures. My question is once/if it’s successful and enters the world of medical treatment, would it also be effective for people with bipolar disorder? A popular BP treatment right now is Lamictal which is used for both people with bipolar disorder and people who suffer from epileptic seizures…interesting.
That’s all for this week’s Saturday Sanity, my lovelies. Enjoy your weekend and I’ll be back Monday – I have a very interesting week planned for Mental Health Notes!

Ahhh research—right up my alley here. I’ve got some interesting things to share about this. I was gonna answer it here but was getting very lengthy. Decided just to do a full blog post check it out.

Not a bad idea on Labor Day weekend!
I agree with Kristina, your timing is amazing!
By the way, I take tues and wed evenings off every week. I may have to change to thursday nights – so I can watch Ugly Betty.
Definitely a little break from the hectic pace of life helps a lot!
Bama: Off to read it right now!
Kristina: We should all be out enjoying the weekend holiday, but alas…I can’t pass up using some free time to catch up! It’s OK when everyone else is still in bed, right?
Laura: Right now I update every morning and take a day a week off when the need arises (i.e. I’m swamped with work!) Maybe I should start posting at night and free up my mornings? Anyway, I usually only catch the ending of Ugly Betty as I wait for Grey’s Anatomy! Don’t know if I’ll be watching that show this season, though.
