Taking Care of the Little Things

A Motivate Me Monday Post

“It’s the little things that drive you crazy; the broken heel, the stain, the drip. If you take care of the little things, the big things become manageable.” Heloise

That statement is true in my book. It’s always those little things that don’t get done that just really get to you. We have several little things in our home that need to be taken care of but they are so easy to just push aside, but then when I have to deal with them, it puts me in an irritable mood.

For this Motivate Me Monday post, take a pad and pen and walk around your house. Write down those little things that have just been eating at you and need to be taken care of. If there are a lot of little things, don’t write them all down, just start with the ones that bother you the most and you have to deal with on a daily basis. Writing down too much will just overwhelm and stall you.

Here’s my little list:

  • Fix tub handle in kids’ bathroom
  • Buy new curtain brackets and re-hang curtains in laundry room
  • Finish ripping down wallpaper in kids’ bathroom
  • Paint daughter’s room

As you can see, my kids’ bathroom needs some help. I am in the middle of re-decorating and it just keeps getting pushed aside. Finding the time to rip down that wallpaper is hard, but everytime I walk in there I cringe.

Thanks to a friend who gave me some of her leftover paint, I now have no excuse not to paint my daughter’s room. She’s decided that her pink walls are 2nd and 3rd grade-ish and we are redecorating her room in blues and browns. Definitely more for a 4th grader she says. :)

If we let the little things that are broken and the projects that need to be done just sit there, our houses can begin to control us. Tackling those projects one at a time and just getting them done, will give you such a sense of accomplishment. Try it and see how it makes you feel.

This is SO TRUE!! It’s truly the little things that are sometimes the most annoying. I haven’t had the carpets cleaned in a long time and the stains are really starting to get to me. But we move out of our rental in 3 weeks anyhow so it’s not worth it to get them cleaned now, but it’s driving me NUTS!!

Oh, I can relate. The carpets in our house were so badly stained. We actually did have them cleaned and it did no good. Now we have hardwood. I love it, but since we have a dog with white hair, I feel like I need to sweep everyday. I don’t, I just feel like I should, lol!

  3. The brown and blue should be pretty! I’ve seen some nice comforter sets with blue and brown at Target and Wal-Mart.

@Karen – I just bought a comforter set for her at Target. It is SO cute! I’ll post a pic here when I am done with her room. She is so excited!! :)
