Tangled Thread fiber art helpline – this week’s questions

I’m always happy to help with answering questions – I can’t guarantee an answer, but I’ll try
Kevin asks:
“I am a big fan of 1940s fashion. Do you have any ideas of where to find patterns, images, etc.?”
I’ve posted a few different sources for vintage patterns including:
- The Vintage Pattern Lending Library.
- “Mom’s Patterns“.
- A Dress A Day celebrates all things vintage with photos, patterns and even fabric sources.
Don’t forget that Vogue has a pretty good collection of vintage patterns - and it’s worthwhile checking through their discontinued patterns as well.
Barbara asks:
“Would love to know the name of suppliers of shisha mirrors or very large sequins. Can anyone help?“
I know for a fact that my local Michael’s Arts & Craft store carries them (in the miniatures section I think), but they’re not labeled as “shisha mirrors”. It’s worthwhile going into the store and doing a thorough search for yourself – I wouldn’t expect many salespeople to know what they are though
Here are three different online sources for shisha mirrors in the USA:
- Treadle Art carries a selection of shisha mirrors online.
- Vintage Vogue carries shisha mirrors as well as metallic sadi thread.
- Gitta’s also carries sadi thread, shisha mirrors as well as instructional books.
Hope this helps!
