Teachers play such an important role in encouraging reading among children, so I thought it would be appropriate to write about a contest Lands’ End is hosting called the Teachers Light the Way Awards.
From now until April 17, 2008, you can nominate a teacher who has made a difference in the life of a student, school or community. The person nominated must be currently employed as a teacher.
To nominate a teacher, just visit the Lands’ End Teachers Award site and submit an essay up to 500 words describing how the teacher you’re nominating is a “bright light in education.”
Lands’ End will award 45 teachers with the new Lands End Teachers Light the Way Award. The winning teachers and their schools will receive prizes including:
- First Grand Prize: $5,000 teacher award, $5,000 school award
- Second Grand Prize: $3,000 teacher award, $3,000 school award
- Third Grand Prize: $2,000 teacher award, $2,000 school award
- Nominators of the Grand Prize Winners: $250 Lands End gift card
- Honorable Mention Prize Winners: $100 Lands End gift card
- Nominators of Honorable Mention Winners: $25 Lands End gift card
The winners will be announced on May 5, 2008 on the Lands’ End Teachers Award website.
Sounds like a great promotion and an excellent way to recognize a teacher in your community!
