Teens and Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders

We’ve all heard about anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa and if you’re anything like me, you think you know enough to recognize if your child were to ever have this problem.

Don’t be so sure.

Teen Style Lounge and Breaking the Mirror, two sister sites here at b5media are shedding some light on this touchy subject.

First take the quiz on Teen Style Lounge and then find the answers on Breaking the Mirror.

Take just a few minutes to test your knowledge of anorexia and bulimia and see just how much you know versus how much you really know.

Share this with a sibling, a friend and everyone you know. If you or someone you know is struggling with an Eating Disorder, please seek help from a trusted source. It’s better safe than sorry.

  1. A scary subject for sure. As I watch my 9 year old edge closer to the fragile teen years, I try to instill good body in her and show her that I love my own body, as well. I have seen friends battle with their own bodies and it was horrible to witness. It is rampant and I blame the media, in part, parents and peers. It is a sick cycle.

  2. Sorry for the typo, I meant “good body image” in my daughter.

My best friends neice is 11. I hate hearing her say “Do I look fat in my jeans?” – her being maybe 95 lbs – hearing about her friend crying because she’s over 100 lbs – Its scary, very. She’s taking on a lot, her parents arent being very responsible. Can I just throw a bubble around her? PLEASE?!

I used to be pencil thin – everyone worried that I had an eating disorder. God I miss those days (BT) Before Twins. :)

It’s nothing to take for granted and I strongly encourage anyone who sees a friend eating strangely to report it to an adult. Eating disorders can have such harmful long term effects.
