Cedar Raised Garden Beds from Raised Garden Beds
- Raised beds keep garden soil from becoming too compacted. When you walk over your garden, it presses the soil down too much at times which means plants may not get enough O2 and it can cause drainage issues. Weeds are also harder to control when your soil becomes compacted.
- Raised beds tend to have better drainage so they work well in areas that are moist year round or in areas with poor soil.
- Depending on how high you build your beds they can be easier on your back – less bending over.
- You get to choose your soil – you’re filling the beds so your soil can be properly mixed and full of healthy organic matter from the start.
- Plants with extra long roots fare well in raised beds because there are no pieces of rock or other hard matter in the soil – well, unless you put it there. It’s super hard to dig up all the rocks in a typical non-raised garden bed.
- Raised beds work well with plants like mint which can become invasive in a normal garden plot. The beds confine wild plants from taking over.
- Raised bed can reduce trouble from some common garden pests. For example with piping and a cover you can keep small animals away a little better.
- Your plants will get more sun and the bed’s soil stays warmer than soil in the ground which means you may be able to plant sooner and have a longer garden season.
- Raised beds allow you to create a garden in places you maybe couldn’t before – for example in an urban environment with no yard a raised bed lets you grow a garden. You can place a lightweight bed on a large patio or flat roof or create a bed in a place with terrible soil.
- Raised beds look attractive and can be made out of almost anything – stay tuned for some cool raised bed options.
