Ten Things We Did This Summer
Christina at SoloMother tagged me for a meme called Ten Things That Happened To Me. Kate at Babylune was able to take the tag and stay on topic with her blog, so I better do the same – but I’ll give it a bit of a twist.
It has been a long summer and school officially starts tomorrow. With three kids ages 11, 8 and 5 home all summer I have earned the title of Weary Parent and I wear it proudly. Here are 10 things that kept us busy this summer.
1. We saw Shrek 3, Transformers, Ratatouille, Harry Potter, Underdog, and The Simpsons. This has to be a record!!! I have never seen so many movies in one summer before. We had also wanted to see Nancy Drew but missed it. I can’t forget the High School Musical 2 premiere that has now been replayed a bazillion times.
2. With six family birthdays in four weeks, we pretty much ate enough cake and ice cream to last for a few months. Add to that – most of my cousins live overseas and this summer quite a few of them came here for vacation. It was nice to reconnect with family and for my kids to get a different perspective on the world.
3. We got a basketball hoop for the driveway and played endless games of H-O-R-S-E, the kids raced their scooters, bikes and got plenty of fresh air.
4. As if we needed another mouth to feed, we got another dog, a black lab named Raven, which brings us up to 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 rabbit and a pond full of goldfish.
5. My son went to a week of hockey camp. He learned a lot, but he was so sore after the first day of skating.
6. My 8 year old is a gymnast and spent 4 mornings a week in the gym. She didn’t mind at all – it is where she is happiest and the group of girls she is with are her closest friends.
7. My 5 year old got very confident in the swimming pool this summer. She can swim the length of the pool all by herself and has expressed an interest in swimming year round.
8. We took our family vacation, minus our son who was on his own adventure, to Pittsburgh. The weather was crazy, the zoo was perfect, and we saw lots of family.
9. Our 5 year old spent a few days in the hospital for a kidney infection in July. That was certainly no fun and very scary but it was also a good test of my parenting skills. When it came time for the older two and Daddy to function with out me for a few days the three of them made it with flying colors.
10. Most of all, we just had fun. We had a nice balance of activities and free time, outdoor fun and indoor vegging out, sun and rain!
